Working within a team of two, you will be responsible for the day-to-day
maintenance of around twenty Linux servers and a small number of Windows
servers, in an ISP style environment. The servers perform a variety of
functions, including web serving (Apache/PHP), database (MySQL), email
(sendmail) and DNS (BIND). In addition, you will also be responsible for
maintaining the company's Checkpoint firewalls. The role also includes
research and development work, providing new IT systems for the wider company,
normally using Open Source software. The successful candidate will have an
in-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system together with at least two
years experience of systems support in a commercial environment. You will also
be well versed in IT Security practises and TCP/IP networking principles.
Experience of SuSE Linux, Perl and UNIX shell scripting, network monitoring
using Open Source tools such as Nagios, mrtg and ntop, Cisco switch and router
configuration and working within the Open Source community would be an
advantage.
