Installing using YaST

  1. Note before starting that all screenshots reference SUSE 10.0, do not be put off by this.
  2. Start YaST, and select the Installation Source module [screenshot].
  3. Add a new FTP installation source. Use the details as follows [screenshot]:
    Protocol: FTP
    Server Name: ftp.gwdg.de
    Directory on Server: pub/linux/usr-local-bin/10.1
    Authentication: Anonymous.
Once, it's added, set it to Refresh - this will ensure that the usr-local-bin package list is updated when you start the package manager module.
  4. You should now see usr-local-bin in the list of installation sources, and you're ready to install packages [screenshot].
  5. See also the OpenSUSE wiki entry about additional YaST repositories.
